With the need for quality hospice care in the state rapidly expanding beyond its regional reach, Hospice of Central Mississippi (HOCM) established a Brookhaven office in October 1992 with the help of the willing Hearts Circle of the King’s Daughters Medical Center. Originally located on South First Street in Brookhaven, the new branch served Lincoln and Copiah Counties and anywhere within a 50-mile radius of Brookhaven. John Fletcher, Executive Director at that time, appointed long-time HOCM employee Jean Berch as director of the new branch. The Brookhaven branch cared for approximately 80 patients within the first year of service and continued to grow from there. Now serving over 11 counties and more than 200 patients each year, Hospice Ministries in Brookhaven continues to serve as the leading hospice provider in southwest Mississippi.
