The Merger On July 30, 1997, Hospice Ministries, Inc, was established with a merger between Whispering Pines Hospice, an inpatient residential hospice facility n south Jackson, and Hospice of Central Mississippi, an in-home hospice agency serving terminally ill patients in central Mississippi. Both of the organizations were non-profit with their mission to provide much-needed end-of-life care to patients regardless of their diagnosis, race, religion, or ability to pay. With the merger came breaking of ground for an $8.5 million facility on five acres of land in Ridgeland, Mississippi. The new facility was to provide for much-needed inpatient beds with associated nurses stations and a chapel along with a space to house the team who cared for patients at home. Two years later the facility opened and today continues to serve 30-40 inpatients as well as multiple patients at home.
