Hospice Ministries Founder and Medical Director Dr. Gerry Ann Houston was featured in the May/June 2022 issue of Mississippi Magazine as one of their Golden Magnolias in the Science & Medicine category. A Golden Magnolia is defined as someone who is “solid in her beliefs, yet has a soft heart. She may be delicate, but she’s hardy with a heart of gold. And her perseverance helps her bloom where she is planted. Their impacts on our state loom large.”

Dr. Houston practiced medicine for 25 years, having retired about 15 years ago. Her passion for healthcare, specifically end-of-life care, is what led her to begin Hospice of Central Mississippi, along with businessman and friend Dan Broughton. It was the first home hospice of its kind in Central Mississippi. In 1997 Hospice of Central Mississippi joined with Whispering Pines Hospice, an inpatient hospice in South Jackson, and eventually became Hospice Ministries as it is today.

Special thank you to Mississippi Magazine and writer Sandra Massey Buckley for featuring Dr. Houston and allowing us to share their work.
